Introduction to Module M3

This module describes monitoring and evaluation of mentoring activities. Evaluation of mentoring activities is paramount to the success of mentoring activities; therefore, it is important that it is conducted in a manner which is accurately reflects the success or failure of the programme. There are different types of mentoring, and there are also various methods of monitoring and evaluating the mentoring process. It is important that a “best fit” approach is used.

The module is split in to two sections;

  • M3_06 Plan the evaluation of the mentoring process
  • M3_07 Conduct evaluation of the mentoring process

Within these two sections, the following learning outcomes will be covered in this module:

M3_06 Preparing the evaluation of the mentoring process

Knowledge Skills Competence
  • Understands the principles of summative evaluation of work‐based mentoring process
  • Understands the principles for documentation and presentation of evaluation results
  • Is able to prepare for the evaluation of the workplace mentoring process
  • Is able to ensure that results of evaluation of the work-based mentoring process are considered for the improvement of the mentoring programme and organisational procedures
  • Take responsibility for his/her own work approach and role
  • Comply with, and ensure that others comply with, legal requirements, industry regulations, organisational policies and procedures and professional codes
  • Identify opportunities for mentoring

M3_07 Conducting the evaluation of the mentoring process

Knowledge Skills Competence
  • Understands the methods and tools for evaluating the mentoring process
  • Understands the methods to analyse the evaluation results as well as their use in order to identify areas for improvement
  • Is able to evaluate the mentoring process in terms of its effectiveness in meeting learning objectives
  • Is able to document and present evaluation results
  • Is able to draw useful conclusions from the evaluation process, identify areas for improvement and take appropriate actions
  • Take responsibility for his/her own work approach and role
  • Build and maintain rapport over sustained periods
  • Comply with, and ensure that others comply with, legal requirements, industry regulations, organisational policies and procedures and professional codes

It is expected that the candidate should be able to meet these outcomes through completion of module 3, including the exercises and final assessment. It is advisable that the learner undertakes further research in the areas covered by this module. A bibliography is provided at the end for learners to conduct their own additional self-study.
